This Privacy Policy describes how On The Dot (“the App,” “we,” “us”) handles information when you use the iOS application and this website. By using the App or the site, you agree to this policy.

1. Summary

On The Dot is a leave-on-time app. We designed it so that:

  • Your missions, groups, and punctuality history stay under your Apple ID and sync with iCloud / CloudKit.
  • We (the developer) do not operate our own trip servers that collect your locations, calendars, or mission history for advertising or resale.
  • Leave-time analytics and AI predictions run on your device, trained on your own history. That data is not uploaded to us for model training.
  • Sharing a group is opt-in. Only people you invite can see that group’s missions.
  • We do not sell your personal information and we do not use third-party advertising SDKs.

2. Information the App stores

Depending on how you use On The Dot, the App may store:

Missions and places you enter

  • Mission titles, destinations, coordinates, arrive-by times, and transport mode
  • Optional extra stops
  • Saved / favorite locations
  • Recurring-mission settings (Premium)
  • Status such as departed, arrived, late, or expired

Timing and on-device analytics

  • Estimated and actual travel times
  • Whether you arrived on time, and by how many minutes
  • Day-of-week and hour-of-day patterns used for your own insights
  • Streaks, achievements, and dashboard summaries (Premium)

These analytics live in the App (Core Data / iCloud under your Apple ID). They are not sent to a developer analytics product.

App preferences and product state

  • Notification sound and Focus / time-sensitive settings
  • Feature toggles (Back to Car, traffic recheck, morning brief, smart buffers)
  • Premium purchase / entitlement status via Apple StoreKit
  • Widget and Live Activity state on this device

Sync and sharing metadata

  • CloudKit share participation (owner / invitee) when you use groups
  • Display names or avatar data Apple provides for people in a share
  • Sync timestamps used to keep devices consistent

We do not require a separate On The Dot username or password. Sign-in is through Apple ID / iCloud, provided by Apple.

3. Permissions the App may use

You can deny any permission. Features that need it will not work until you allow it.

Location (When In Use and, if you allow it, Always)

Location is core to the product. The App uses it to:

  • Show where you are and calculate travel time / leave time
  • Refresh ETAs in the background
  • Monitor geofences around destinations so arrival can be detected
  • Remember a parking spot for Back to Car
  • Recheck traffic before you need to leave

Background location is used only to keep leave times accurate and to fire timely reminders — not to build a location profile for advertising.

Motion

If you allow Motion & Fitness, the App can detect vehicle entry and exit to improve ETA and parking-related behavior.

Calendar (optional, Premium)

If you turn on calendar integration and grant access, On The Dot reads upcoming events (especially those with a location) so it can suggest or create missions. It does not sell calendar contents. You choose which calendars to use.

Notifications, Live Activities, and widgets

Local notifications, Live Activities, and widgets show leave times and mission status on your device. They are scheduled by the App; we do not send marketing push from our own servers.

Maps and routing

Travel estimates use Apple MapKit / Apple Maps. Apple may process origin, destination, and routing requests under Apple’s terms. We do not insert a third-party maps advertising SDK.

Send to car (optional)

If you choose Send to Tesla or Send to Rivian, the App hands the destination to that car app on your device. Those companies’ privacy policies apply once you share.

4. Where your data lives

On your device

Missions, analytics, and settings are stored locally (including Core Data and, for some personal extras such as “only me” stops or AI buffers, on-device storage that is not copied into a shared CloudKit group).

In your iCloud (private database)

When iCloud is available, your data may sync across your own devices signed into the same Apple ID.

Shared with people you invite (groups)

If you create or join a group, selected missions are shared through Apple CloudKit sharing so invitees can view and update that group. You control who is invited. People in the group can see shared mission details.

Personal extras designed to stay on your device (for example extra stops or buffers that are “only me”) are not uploaded as part of the group share.

This website

onthedotapp.com is a static site hosted on GitHub Pages. It publishes support and privacy pages. We do not run a member login or a separate customer database on the site.

5. What we do not collect

The developer of On The Dot does not:

  • Sell your personal, location, or calendar data
  • Use your missions for third-party advertising networks
  • Require a custom account on our servers
  • Independently host a copy of your trip history outside Apple’s CloudKit for our own analytics products
  • Train a cloud AI model on your missions

Crash or diagnostic data may be available to the developer only through Apple’s standard tools (for example App Store Connect analytics or crash reports) if you have chosen to share such data with Apple / developers in your device settings. Those systems are controlled by Apple’s privacy terms.

6. Purchases (Premium)

Optional On The Dot Premium is offered as a monthly subscription, an annual subscription, or a lifetime (one-time) purchase. Subscriptions may include a free trial.

  • Payments are processed by Apple.
  • We do not receive your full payment card number.
  • Apple may provide us with purchase / entitlement status so the App can unlock Premium features.
  • If Apple Family Sharing is enabled for the subscription, members of your Apple Family may receive the unlock entitlement according to Apple’s rules. That is separate from being invited into a specific shared mission group.

Manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID settings / App Store subscriptions.

7. Children

On The Dot is not directed at children under 13. Do not use the App to store information about children in a way that violates applicable law. If you believe we have inadvertently received such information through developer channels, contact us and we will help address it.

8. Your choices and controls

You can:

  • Use the App without inviting others to a group
  • Decline Premium, calendar access, Motion, or Always location
  • Turn off Back to Car, traffic recheck, morning brief, and smart buffers in Settings
  • Delete history or all mission data from Settings
  • Leave or remove people from a shared group (where the App provides those actions)
  • Sign out of iCloud or manage iCloud storage in iOS Settings
  • Delete the App (local data is removed from the device; iCloud copies may remain until you delete them from iCloud according to Apple’s tools)

9. Data security

We rely on Apple’s platform security for on-device storage, iCloud, CloudKit sharing, MapKit, notifications, and App Store purchases. No method of electronic storage is 100% secure. Use a strong Apple ID password and Apple’s recommended account protections (such as two-factor authentication).

10. Third parties

Primary service providers involved in running the App:

  • Apple Inc. — App Store, StoreKit, iCloud / CloudKit, MapKit, push / background delivery as configured, device OS permissions
  • Tesla / Rivian — only if you choose to send a destination to those apps

We do not integrate third-party ad SDKs for serving ads in On The Dot.

11. International users

Your data may be stored and processed by Apple in regions where Apple operates iCloud infrastructure. Use of the App is subject to Apple’s terms and your local laws.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy. Material changes may also be noted in the App Store “What’s New” notes when appropriate.
