1. Summary
OurBudget is a household budgeting app. We designed it so that:
- Your budget data stays in your Apple iCloud account (and, if you use Household sharing, in a CloudKit share with people you invite).
- We (the developer) do not operate our own budget servers that collect your transactions, balances, or receipts for advertising or resale.
- Solo use is free. Optional Household unlock is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple.
- We do not sell your personal information.
2. Information the App stores
Depending on how you use OurBudget, the App may store:
Budget content you enter
- Income sources and pay dates
- Bills, amounts, due dates, paid/unpaid status
- Variable spending categories and transactions
- Optional receipt images attached to transactions
- Investment contribution schedules
- Checking / cash balance estimates you enter
- Private “Plan” sandboxes (what-if budgets)
- Month-end summary reports created when a month rolls over
App preferences & product state
- Settings such as last month key for rollover
- Household trial start date (stored on device)
- Purchase / entitlement status for Household unlock (via Apple StoreKit)
Sync & sharing metadata
- CloudKit share participation (owner / invitee) when you use Household sharing
- Sync-related timestamps and revision fields used to keep devices consistent
We do not require you to create a separate OurBudget account. Sign-in is through Apple ID / iCloud, provided by Apple.
3. Where your data lives
On your device
Data is stored locally using Apple frameworks (including SwiftData).
In your iCloud (private database)
When iCloud is available, your data may sync across your own devices signed into the same Apple ID via Apple CloudKit.
Shared with people you invite (Household)
If you unlock Household (trial or purchase) and invite others, selected budget data is shared through Apple CloudKit sharing so invitees can view and edit the same household budget.
You control who is invited. People you invite can see and change shared budget information. Plans that are designed to stay private remain on your device / private store and are not uploaded as part of family share.
Month-end retention
Variable spending transactions (and attached receipt images) from prior months may be removed when a new calendar month begins so the app stays focused on the current month. Before removal, the App may save a month-end report you can export or delete in Settings. Income sources, bills, investment schedules, category budgets, and balance settings are kept.
4. What we do not collect
The developer of OurBudget does not:
- Sell your personal or financial data
- Use your budget contents for third-party advertising networks
- Require a custom username/password account on our servers
- Independently host a copy of your transactions outside Apple’s CloudKit for our own analytics products
Crash or diagnostic data may be available to the developer only through Apple’s standard tools (for example App Store Connect analytics or crash reports) if you have chosen to share such data with Apple / developers in your device settings. Those systems are controlled by Apple’s privacy terms.
5. Purchases (Household unlock)
Optional Household unlock is a one-time In-App Purchase that enables inviting other Apple IDs to share and sync a budget.
- Payments are processed by Apple.
- We do not receive your full payment card number.
- Apple may provide us with purchase/entitlement status (for example, whether Household is owned) so the App can unlock features.
- If Apple Family Sharing is enabled for the In-App Purchase, members of your Apple Family may receive access to the unlock entitlement according to Apple’s rules. That is separate from being invited into a specific shared budget.
A free trial of Household sharing may be offered in the App. Trial state is stored on your device.
6. Photos & camera (receipts)
If you attach a receipt, the App may access the camera or photo library only after you grant permission, and only to capture or select an image you choose to attach to a transaction. Receipt images are stored with your budget data (on device / iCloud / shared zone if applicable) and may be deleted when transactions are cleared at month end or when you delete them / reset data.
7. Children
OurBudget is not directed at children under 13. Do not use the App to store information about children in a way that violates applicable law. If you believe we have inadvertently received such information through developer channels, contact us and we will help address it as appropriate.
8. Your choices & controls
You can:
- Use the App without inviting others (solo / same Apple ID)
- Decline Household purchase or trial
- Remove participants or leave a shared budget (where the App provides those actions)
- Export data (for example CSV) and delete month-end reports
- Reset local budget data from Settings (this can also remove shared data for the family share after sync—use carefully)
- Sign out of iCloud or manage iCloud storage in iOS Settings
- Delete the App (local data is removed from the device; iCloud copies may remain until you delete them from iCloud according to Apple’s tools and policies)
9. Data security
We rely on Apple’s platform security for on-device storage, iCloud, CloudKit sharing, and App Store purchases. No method of electronic storage is 100% secure. Use a strong Apple ID password and Apple’s recommended account protections (such as two-factor authentication).
10. Third parties
Primary service providers involved in running the App:
- Apple Inc. — App Store, StoreKit, iCloud / CloudKit, push/background delivery as configured, device OS permissions
We do not integrate third-party ad SDKs for serving ads in OurBudget.
11. International users
Your data may be stored and processed by Apple in regions where Apple operates iCloud infrastructure. Use of the App is subject to Apple’s terms and your local laws.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy. Material changes may also be noted in the App Store “What’s New” notes when appropriate.
